They will learn how to manage and treat dogs and cats exhibiting fear\, aggression or anxiety. We will review how to address inappropriate elimination behavior in cats. We will review behavior modification techniques and the use of psychopharmacology for these specific behavior problems. \n  \n  \nRed Flag Puppies & Kittens: Identifying Early Behavior Problems \nWe will review why socialization is important for kittens and puppies and how pet parents can socialize their pets. We will also discuss how to recognize puppies and kittens that show early signs of behavioral problems. Unfortunately\, puppies and kittens displaying behavioral issues at this age will not grow out of it. We will also review recommendations to provide to pet parents with puppies/kittens with behavioral disorders. \n  \nCase Study Review  \nWe will review a case study on canine aggression\, feline aggression and canine anxiety. We will review how to take a behavioral history. What are the crucial questions to ask the pet parent? We will also review how to make a diagnosis and prognosis. We will discuss how to develop a treatment plan. We will also discuss how to select psychoactive medications. \n  \nDefiant Teens: How to Help Clients Manage Adolescent Dogs \nThe majority of veterinarians know that socialization for puppies is crucial in the development of a behaviorally well adjusted adult dog. What happens after socialization? What are potential behavioral issues that adolescent/teenaged dogs may encounter? We will discuss recommendations that will help our pet parents manage and retain these dogs through their teenager period. \n  \nBehavioral and Health Considerations in Our Aging Pets \nAttendees will learn to recognize the signs of pain\, normal aging and cognitive dysfunction in senior dogs and cats. We will review the current treatment recommendations to address cognitive dysfunction and other conditions that affect senior dogs and cats. \n  \nAsk Dr. Sung: Answers to YOUR questions  \nAttendees have an opportunity to submit questions that will be answered. She will review the FDA approved medications and human generic medications used to treat behavioral disorders in dogs and cats; and will go through the process of drug selection for a patient with a behavioral disorder. \nRegister today with the Spring Meeting to receive promotional pricing of $20. \n  \n  \nWailani Sung\, MS\, PhD\, DVM\, DACVB \n \nDr. Wailani Sung obtained her Master’s degree\, Doctorate in Psychology\, and Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine. She achieved hen board certification in veterinary behavioral medicine. Dr. Sung provides behavior consultations for privately owned pets and also oversees the shelter behavior program at the San Francisco SPCA. \nDr. Sung is a co-author of the book\, “From Fearful to Fear Free”\, in which she collaborated with Dr. Marty Becker\, veterinary colleague Dr. Lisa Radosta\, and renowned trainer Mikkel Becker. Dr. Sung also co-authored a chapter in “Decoding your Cat”. Dr. Sung has been a contributor to the websites PetCoach and PetMD. Dr. Sung has written chapters for the following veterinary textbooks: Behavior of Exotic Pets; Blackwell’s Five-Minute Veterinary Consult Clinical Companion: Canine and Feline Behavior\, 2nd Edition; Blackwell’s Five-Minute Veterinary Consult: Canine and Feline: 7th edition; Animal Behavior for Shelter Veterinarians and Staff\, 2nd edition; Clinical Handbook of Feline Behavior Medicine.
