DESCRIPTION:Join us for our Fall meeting\nFeaturing Eric D. Garcia.\nLocation: St Clements Castle\, Portland\n\n\n\nTopics:\n\nRising As a Leader in Animal Health – Leadership Lessons from the Kennel to Global Stage\nLeadership doesn’t always come with a roadmap—especially in animal health. In this deeply personal session\, I’ll share my own journey of growing from behind-the-scenes roles to leading conversations on some of the biggest stages in veterinary medicine. From cleaning kennels to advising global companies\, the path wasn’t linear—but every moment along the way shaped how I lead today. \nThis session is for anyone who’s ever wondered\, “Am I ready for more?”—whether that means managing a team\, stepping into ownership\, or making a bigger impact in the profession. Through real stories\, lessons learned the hard way\, and pivotal turning points\, I’ll explore how leadership shows up in unexpected places—and how you can grow into it with purpose\, authenticity\, and confidence. \nYou’ll walk away with: \n\nA fresh perspective on what leadership looks like in animal health (and what it doesn’t)\nLessons learned from navigating change\nEncouragement and practical advice for stepping into new roles or business ownership\nInspiration to lead from wherever you are—right now\n\nWhether you’re just starting to find your voice or ready to take your next big leap\, this session will speak to the heart of what it means to grow as a leader in this profession. \n\nBranding Beyond the Logo: Building Emotional Connections\nIn this thought-provoking session\, we delve into the transformative power of cultivating\nemotional bonds with your clients. Beyond the surface of logos and slogans\, we explore the\nnuances of creating authentic connections that evoke trust\, loyalty\, and lasting impressions.\nDiscover how to infuse your veterinary practice with values and narratives that resonate deeply\nwith pet owners\, forging a unique identity that distinguishes you in a crowded market. Through\ncompelling case studies and actionable insights\, we showcase how to curate experiences that\ntouch hearts and minds\, transcending transactions to create meaningful relationships.\nJoin us as we unravel the strategies to elevate your veterinary brand\, tapping into the emotional\nfabric that links you to the pets you care for and the clients who entrust their companions to\nyour expertise. This lecture isn’t just about marketing – it’s about nurturing connections that\nendure and inspire\, ultimately defining your practice as a beacon of compassion and\nexcellence in the hearts of those you serve.\n\nNow Hiring: Strategic Branding and Marketing That Attracts Top Talent\nDiscover the winning formula for building a veterinary practice that becomes a magnet for\nexceptional talent in our engaging session. In an increasingly competitive landscape\, it’s\ncrucial to position your practice as a workplace of choice. Join us as we delve into the dynamic\nrealm of recruitment marketing and branding\, unveiling powerful strategies that resonate with\nprospective team members.\nExplore the art of crafting an authentic employer brand that reflects your practice’s\nvalues\, culture\, and commitment to professional growth. From creating compelling narratives\nthat highlight your unique offerings to leveraging social media\, online platforms\, and networking\nevents\, we’ll guide you through proven techniques to showcase your practice as the preferred\ndestination for veterinary professionals.\nThrough real-world examples and practical insights\, you’ll gain the tools to design recruitment\ncampaigns that not only attract top talent but also resonate with their aspirations. Whether\nyou’re a practice owner\, HR manager\, or industry professional\, this session empowers you to\nforge a workplace identity that stands out\, setting the stage for a dynamic team\nthat shares your vision and passion.\n\n\n\n\n\nEric Garcia isn’t just a marketing and technology expert—he’s someone who truly understands the inner workings of a veterinary practice. His journey started over a decade ago at Veterinary Medical Clinic\, where he rolled up his sleeves as an IT Administrator\, modernizing the hospital from the ground up. He overhauled the entire network\, integrated diagnostic tools\, and implemented a new practice management system—seeing firsthand how smart technology and efficient workflows could transform patient care. Before long\, he transitioned into business management\, helping the clinic grow while keeping a strong focus on client communication and patient experience.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHis passion for blending technology\, marketing\, and veterinary medicine led him to take on the role of Vice President at Pets Vets and You\, a veterinary-exclusive marketing firm dedicated to helping clinics connect with their communities. After selling the company\, he founded Tapir—formerly Simply Done Tech Solutions—to continue empowering veterinary teams with practical\, real-world solutions for technology\, marketing\, and client engagement. \nWith hands-on experience inside veterinary hospitals\, Eric understands the challenges that come with running a busy practice. That’s why he’s spent years guiding veterinary teams on how to use technology and digital marketing to not only attract new clients but to build stronger relationships with pet owners.\n\n\nHis work has earned industry-wide recognition. He was named VMX 2020 Speaker of the Year\, has been published in three editions of Wiley’s Five-Minute Veterinary Practice Management Consult\, and has authored over 15 chapters on technology\, digital communication\, and marketing in veterinary medicine. He also served as the former marketing columnist for Today’s Veterinary Business\, where he provided veterinary professionals with actionable strategies to improve client engagement and practice growth. As the previous program chair for conferences like VMX\, he’s played a key role in shaping the conversations that matter most to veterinary professionals. \n\nBeyond technology and marketing\, Eric has a deep passion for improving communication with cat caregivers. He has served on advisory boards for organizations such as The Feline Veterinary Medical Association (formerly AAFP) and major pharmaceutical companies\, working to help veterinary teams better understand and connect with cat owners. \nAt the heart of it all\, Eric is a problem solver and a storyteller who believes that great technology and great communication can transform veterinary medicine. When he’s not consulting or speaking at conferences\, you’ll find him flying his drone across the world\, capturing breathtaking footage\, beekeeping\, or spoiling his two geriatric pups\, Elvis and Penny. \n\nIf there’s a better way to do something\, Eric will find it—and he’ll make sure veterinary teams feel confident using it.\n\n\nWe would like to thank Boehringer Ingelheim for sponsoring this evert

SUMMARY:Kellie Ollah
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for our\nSpring Meeting\n  \nTopics\nTrue Stories in Veterinary Practice: This session will discuss common (and hopefully some not so common) scenarios that come up in veterinary practice.  We will talk through the different ways to address each scenario and share ideas from our own practices that work.  Topics include client complaints\, staff issues\, and ethical conundrum\nWorkplace Culture: Go from Surviving to Thriving: If you are unsure about what behaviors and/or actions constitute a hostile work environment\, or have employees complaining about a supervisor’s behavior\, or your management radar tells you that there are other employee activities/undercurrents that could result in a liability for the practice\, then you should be proactively managing the risks associated with workplace harassment and discrimination to include providing harassment/discrimination prevention training to all employees.  Now is the time to better understand the laws and requirements in order to get sharp-eyed in spotting and stamping out potential harassment and discrimination before it clouds the workplace.\nSuccessfully Managing Conflict in Your Veterinary Practice: The reality is\, you probably spend all day long with your co-workers\, almost every single day of the week—and so\, it isn’t reasonable to expect that no conflict will ever exist at your practice. It is reasonable\, though\, as well as desirable\, to create a healthy working environment\, one where conflicts that arise are managed in a functional way\, a way that allows your practice to flourish. Plus\, from a practical standpoint\, if you’re in a supervisory position\, managing conflict is simply part of your job\nFeaturing: Kellie Ollah\nBio to Come!\n  \n  \nThank you to our Sponsors!\n

SUMMARY:Veterinary Leadership through Fresh Eyes: A social worker's approach to veterinary management
DESCRIPTION:Winter Meeting\nWednesday February 14\, 2024\nVeterinary Leadership- Veterinary through Fresh Eyes\,  A social worker’s approach to veterinary management \nTopics for the day:\n\nUnreasonable Hospitality – How do we rise above normal service and turn our baseline transactions into meaningful human connection? One size fits one client care provides us the opportunity to make a difference for our clients and our teams\, and in order to do this\, we must take what we do\, not ourselves\, seriously.   \nHiring in the New Reality – Gone are the days of hiring managers having the upper hand in the interview process. Good candidates are few and far between. We need to stop stalling the hiring process\, developing creative approaches to aligning your hiring team\, and thinking outside the box for your next hire.  \nIt’s Okay to Cry – We know that veterinary medicine is not an easy field to get started in. It is important that we support our newest team members\, who enter our field with high hopes and sometimes unrealistic expectations. This presentation talks about empathy in a relatable way for veterinary leaders\, helping us find a better approach than the standard of telling people to “toughen up.”  \nPresenter Anthony Pierlioni \nIn the fast-paced and ever-changing\, modern world\, veterinary medicine has fallen behind in several key areas. Our leaders need to find creative ways to build and support our teams\, taking proactive approaches to growing and attracting talent. There is much hope\, plenty of room\, and considerable need for forward thinking professionals to abandon the status quo and begin doing what makes sense. The morning topics : Unreasonable Hospitality\, Hiring in the New Reality and It’s Okay to Cry will weave together a new outlook.  Anthony is the Manger\, Training & Facilitation for the world’s largest veterinary organization. He joined the learning and development part of the field after years of management experience in hybrid\, GP and specialty hospitals. \nAnthony also has years of management experience in the field of social work\, which has proven quite useful in the veterinary field. In 2023\, Anthony’s book\, Veterinary Leadership through Fresh Eyes\, A Social Worker’s Approach to Veterinary Management\, was published. It details his transition to the veterinary profession after years of experience in leadership roles in social work and the NCAA. \nAnthony’s passion is animals – particularly turtles. For years\, he worked with the veterinary community during his part in developing and helping operate the Turtle Room\, a non-profit organization that works to educate the public on the plight of turtles and tortoises\, and also to preserve and conserve them. \n  \nNetworking and Breakfast begins 8:15am Program 9:00am – 12:00pm \nRSVP by 02/09/24 \nMembership is open to those involved in the management of your veterinary practice whether they involve human resources\, inventory\, or financials (owners\, practice and office managers\, technicians with management responsibilities \nAnthony will have his books available at the meeting for purchasing and signing.
