SUMMARY:Veterinary Leadership through Fresh Eyes: A social worker's approach to veterinary management
DESCRIPTION:Winter Meeting\nWednesday February 14\, 2024\nVeterinary Leadership- Veterinary through Fresh Eyes\,  A social worker’s approach to veterinary management \nTopics for the day:\n\nUnreasonable Hospitality – How do we rise above normal service and turn our baseline transactions into meaningful human connection? One size fits one client care provides us the opportunity to make a difference for our clients and our teams\, and in order to do this\, we must take what we do\, not ourselves\, seriously.   \nHiring in the New Reality – Gone are the days of hiring managers having the upper hand in the interview process. Good candidates are few and far between. We need to stop stalling the hiring process\, developing creative approaches to aligning your hiring team\, and thinking outside the box for your next hire.  \nIt’s Okay to Cry – We know that veterinary medicine is not an easy field to get started in. It is important that we support our newest team members\, who enter our field with high hopes and sometimes unrealistic expectations. This presentation talks about empathy in a relatable way for veterinary leaders\, helping us find a better approach than the standard of telling people to “toughen up.”  \nPresenter Anthony Pierlioni \nIn the fast-paced and ever-changing\, modern world\, veterinary medicine has fallen behind in several key areas. Our leaders need to find creative ways to build and support our teams\, taking proactive approaches to growing and attracting talent. There is much hope\, plenty of room\, and considerable need for forward thinking professionals to abandon the status quo and begin doing what makes sense. The morning topics : Unreasonable Hospitality\, Hiring in the New Reality and It’s Okay to Cry will weave together a new outlook.  Anthony is the Manger\, Training & Facilitation for the world’s largest veterinary organization. He joined the learning and development part of the field after years of management experience in hybrid\, GP and specialty hospitals. \nAnthony also has years of management experience in the field of social work\, which has proven quite useful in the veterinary field. In 2023\, Anthony’s book\, Veterinary Leadership through Fresh Eyes\, A Social Worker’s Approach to Veterinary Management\, was published. It details his transition to the veterinary profession after years of experience in leadership roles in social work and the NCAA. \nAnthony’s passion is animals – particularly turtles. For years\, he worked with the veterinary community during his part in developing and helping operate the Turtle Room\, a non-profit organization that works to educate the public on the plight of turtles and tortoises\, and also to preserve and conserve them. \n  \nNetworking and Breakfast begins 8:15am Program 9:00am – 12:00pm \nRSVP by 02/09/24 \nMembership is open to those involved in the management of your veterinary practice whether they involve human resources\, inventory\, or financials (owners\, practice and office managers\, technicians with management responsibilities \nAnthony will have his books available at the meeting for purchasing and signing.
