Rising As a Leader in Animal Health – Leadership Lessons from the Kennel to Global Stage
Leadership doesn’t always come with a roadmap—especially in animal health. In this deeply personal session, I’ll share my own journey of growing from behind-the-scenes roles to leading conversations on some of the biggest stages in veterinary medicine. From cleaning kennels to advising global companies, the path wasn’t linear—but every moment along the way shaped how I lead today.
This session is for anyone who’s ever wondered, “Am I ready for more?”—whether that means managing a team, stepping into ownership, or making a bigger impact in the profession. Through real stories, lessons learned the hard way, and pivotal turning points, I’ll explore how leadership shows up in unexpected places—and how you can grow into it with purpose, authenticity, and confidence.
You’ll walk away with:
- A fresh perspective on what leadership looks like in animal health (and what it doesn’t)
- Lessons learned from navigating change
- Encouragement and practical advice for stepping into new roles or business ownership
- Inspiration to lead from wherever you are—right now
Whether you’re just starting to find your voice or ready to take your next big leap, this session will speak to the heart of what it means to grow as a leader in this profession.

His passion for blending technology, marketing, and veterinary medicine led him to take on the role of Vice President at Pets Vets and You, a veterinary-exclusive marketing firm dedicated to helping clinics connect with their communities. After selling the company, he founded Tapir—formerly Simply Done Tech Solutions—to continue empowering veterinary teams with practical, real-world solutions for technology, marketing, and client engagement.
His work has earned industry-wide recognition. He was named VMX 2020 Speaker of the Year, has been published in three editions of Wiley’s Five-Minute Veterinary Practice Management Consult, and has authored over 15 chapters on technology, digital communication, and marketing in veterinary medicine. He also served as the former marketing columnist for Today’s Veterinary Business, where he provided veterinary professionals with actionable strategies to improve client engagement and practice growth. As the previous program chair for conferences like VMX, he’s played a key role in shaping the conversations that matter most to veterinary professionals.
Beyond technology and marketing, Eric has a deep passion for improving communication with cat caregivers. He has served on advisory boards for organizations such as The Feline Veterinary Medical Association (formerly AAFP) and major pharmaceutical companies, working to help veterinary teams better understand and connect with cat owners.
At the heart of it all, Eric is a problem solver and a storyteller who believes that great technology and great communication can transform veterinary medicine. When he’s not consulting or speaking at conferences, you’ll find him flying his drone across the world, capturing breathtaking footage, beekeeping, or spoiling his two geriatric pups, Elvis and Penny.
